Terapia da Fala e a Universidade

"Abstract: In this short article, Portuguese SLP tries to explain, in an informal way, the reality of professional practice in that country. Starting with a brief historical perspective of professional practice, they explore also political and scientific challenges they now deal with.

We believe in our profession and our effort at the University is to teach (to touch and be touched) the living ideas of our time. This is what we believe culture is. Culture is more than erudition; it is not an unarticulated knowledge, of knowing just at the surface level. It’s a group of convictions of our time (academic, social, political, scientific and nonscientific) learned or created and that allow us, the human condition, to stand as unique, made on diversity.


Science is the body of intellectual Knowledge. Is to actively pursue the respect of the doubt and always demanding the truth.


Culture forces University to embrace the totality of the world. And the University is the perpetual attempt to find the scientific and philosophical plan of the Universe.


SLP is embedded in this spirit. Our times are changing. The paradigm of our certainties also changed.
